Fruit Cake with Whiskey

 
 

 

 

Taste and health benefits of Butter, Shortening (Crisco/Spry), and Lard are still hotly debated. Aunt Pit wasn't afraid of any of them.

1/2 cup butter
3 cups white sugar
1/2 cup crisco [shortening]
5 egg yolks
2 tea s. cinnamon
1 cup broken walnuts
1 tea s. nutmeg
1 qt seeded raisins
1 tea s. ginger
2 1/2 cups currants
1 1/2 tea s. salt
1 cup citron (cut fine)
2 1/2 cups sour milk
1/2 cup whiskey
3 even tea s. soda
6 cups flour
5 egg whites beaten stiff

Bake 1 hr. 40 mi

1 package currants
1 package dates
1 lbs walnuts
citron @75 - 30¢ worth
1 bottle cherries
